LAWTON, Okla. (TNN) – Lawton City Council members approved two road construction contracts.

Lawton City Council approves contracts for roads, parks master plan

These represent phase 1-D and 1-E of the 2017 Ad Valorem Streets and Road Programs.

Road work will begin in the next few weeks at 78th and SW Oakcliff.

That project will be done by MTZ Construction.

Their bid was more than 2 million dollars.

Work will also begin soon on 3-point-4 miles of Southwest 7th by AE construction, costing just north of 1 million dollars.

In New Business, council approved a contract for the Parks Master Plan to Halff Associates.

They will now develop plans to spend nearly 20 million dollars, from the CIP, on parks and recreation in the city of Lawton.

Activists protest Palantir across the US over its ICE contracts

  • Activist groups have organized a series of protests across the US against Palantir this week over the company’s contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
  • The groups staged a “good riddance” protest outside Palantir’s former Palo Alto office, as well as an “unwelcome” protest at Palantir’s new Denver headquarters, where it just moved.
  • Palantir has received over $160 million in past contracts with ICE. The software company provides data-crunching tools that organize information on undocumented immigrants, and ICE has reportedly used Palantir technology to plan workplace raids and arrests.
  • Palantir is currently preparing to go public, and it has acknowledged in public filings that activism could hurt its business by generating negative publicity.

Kanye West Already Owns Some of His Masters, Universal Contracts Show

Kanye West has said publicly for years that he deserves to own the rights to his music — the master recordings of his songs, and his publishing — even though he knowingly signed contracts with Universal Music Group and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, with top attorneys present, that adhere to music industry standards whereby the company is the owner. He even sued both companies over the matter last year; while the Universal suit is ongoing, sources say he settled with Sony/ATV last fall.

West renewed those efforts during his epic Twitter binge earlier this week, and tweeted out screen shots of dozens of pages from his contracts (although not all of them).

In the process, he revealed that he apparently already owns some of his masters.

Indeed, rather than demonstrating how unfair his contracts are, his tactic seems more likely to cause Universal tension with artists whose deals aren’t as artist-friendly

IG Finds ‘Significant Inaccuracies’ in Federal Acquisition Service’s Reporting of Small Business Contracts

There have been “significant inaccuracies” in the Federal Acquisition Service’s reporting of small business contracts, a watchdog reported earlier this week. 

On Monday, the General Service Administration inspector general issued a report that looked at the data GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service entered into the Federal Procurement Data System – Next Generation, which is managed by GSA. The Small Business Administration uses that system to assess if the federal government achieves its overall annual goal of awarding 23% of contracts to small businesses. Based on its review of Federal Acquisition Service procurements from fiscal 2016 and 2017 (that totaled $3.7 billion), the IG identified issues that led to overstating of small businesses procurements. 

“We found that FAS’s reporting of small business procurements contained significant inaccuracies. We identified $89 million in procurements erroneously recorded as small business in [the Federal Procurement Data System–Next Generation],” said the IG. “In addition, FAS’ small business
