Rendell and Toomey join in Congressional term limits proposal

If past is prologue, a proposal from U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R- Lehigh Valley, and former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell seeking 34 states to force a Constitutional Convention to consider congressional term limits may be as unlikely as the partners who put out the call for it Tuesday.

Just one day after Toomey, a soft spoken, patrician Republican conservative, announced he would not seek a third term in the Senate or run for governor in 2022, he and Ed Rendell, an outspoken Democrat and former big city mayor, who served two terms in the governor’s office, issued a joint statement supporting a constitutional amendment to establish congressional terms limits.

As Trump faces coronavirus diagnosis, congressional leaders seek to show it’s business as usual

“Full steam ahead with the fair, thorough, timely process that the nominee, the Court, & the country deserve,” McConnell wrote on Twitter after speaking by phone with Trump, declaring that the president was in “good spirits.”

Pelosi held a normal day of business while awaiting her coronavirus test result, conducting interviews with the media and continuing negotiations on a financial relief package.

She predicted that she would be fine because her only contact was with a Trump administration official, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who had tested negative.

“Out of [an] abundance of caution I was tested. . . . I have concern about the test, because obviously the tests that are happening at the White House are not as accurate as they should be,” Pelosi said during an MSNBC interview Friday morning.

Shortly after 4 p.m. her spokesman announced she had tested negative.

Movie Theater Business Urges Congressional Leaders to Fund Bailout

Leaders of the nation’s movie theater business, which has been hammered by the COVID-19 pandemic, are urging Congress to provide bailout funds so the industry can survive.

The letter urges Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to redirect unallocated funds from the CARES Act to proposals that help businesses that have suffered the steepest revenue drops due to the pandemic. The National Association of Theatre Owners, the Directors Guild of America, the Motion Picture Association and more than 70 directors, producers, and writers signed the letter.
