COVID-19 May Boost Cloud and Edge Computing

According to a new report by PMMI Business Intelligence, currently 47% of leading CPGs and 46% of SMEs are utilizing cloud computing, and only 20% of leading CPGs and very few SMEs are utilizing edge computing strategies, though the use of both did accelerate due to COVID-19.

Cloud computing enables manufacturers to access production data and controls, remotely and in real time. By continuously uploading data to the cloud, manufacturers can obtain a comprehensive view of their operations, monitoring where products are, controlling what production lines are doing, and analyzing gathered data, without the need to be physically present at the site of production. Edge computing enables many of the same advantages of cloud computing, but without the option of remote access to data.

Sigma Computing Makes Self-service Business Intelligence a Reality for Teachable, Accelerating Data-driven Decisions Across Business Teams | Business Ap

Sigma Computing, an innovator in cloud analytics and business intelligence (A&BI) for enterprise teams, is helping Teachable enable every employee to find the information they need to make data-driven decisions quickly. The eLearning platform’s previous A&BI tool required a proprietary coding language to answer even the most straightforward questions, leaving business teams dependent upon the data team and analysts. Pentagon selects Microsoft for cloud computing contract and more business news

“The department has completed its comprehensive re-evaluation of the JEDI cloud proposals and determined that Microsoft’s proposal continues to represent the best value to the government,” the Pentagon said.

The Pentagon had requested time to review how it evaluated certain technical aspects of the bids after the judge who is presiding over Amazon’s bid protest in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims issued a preliminary injunction on Feb. 13. The judge said that Amazon’s challenge likely had merit in some respects.

The contract was awarded to Microsoft last October, prompting Amazon to cry foul.

Amazon Web Services, a market leader in providing cloud computing services, had long been considered a leading
