Small business nonprofit help with office at SVSU expands services using CARES Act

SAGINAW, MI – A statewide nonprofit is using CARES Act funding to expand its services for small business, including at its regional office at Saginaw Valley State University.

Using the funding, the Michigan Small Business Development Center has added almost 50 business consultants throughout the state and made new partnerships with service providers available to help businesses survive the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a news release.

“As small businesses begin to restart, recover and launch, they will be required to have a heightened awareness and response to our ever-changing economic environment,” said Beth Roszatycki, regional director of the SBDC office at SVSU, in the release. “Being able to equip business owners and future entrepreneurs with the resources, tools and knowledge to respond to these evolving requirements and best practices will be critical. I see the SBDC being the support network to help with these necessary changes.”

The center’s offices provide free consulting, training, market research and other planning services to local businesses. The Great Lakes Bay Region office is located in the Scott L. Carmona College of Business building on SVSU’s campus, a new $25.4 million facility the university opened in February. The expanded services are available through the end of March 2021, according to the release.
