Will Smith, Kevin Hart fund pandemic-proof virtual events start-up Run The World

From working with Will Smith and Kevin Hart, to hosting thousands of events across the globe, Xiaoyin Qu’s schedule has been packed lately.

In May, the 27-year-old Stanford dropout added the A-list entertainers to a string of big names eager to back her virtual events start-up with $10.8 million, as investors sought to ride the rising tide of coronavirus-friendly technology businesses.

No one saw this coming, at least when we pitched it.

Xiaoyin Qu

co-founder and CEO, Run The World

Qu doesn’t claim to have seen the pandemic coming. Far from it, in fact. This was simply the latest in a long line of failed ideas.

“I had enough failed ideas, or enough ideas people thought were stupid, I just thought well, maybe I’ll give it (a) try,” Qu told CNBC Make It.

Qu is the co-founder and CEO of Run The World, a California-based tech

Trump administration set to make it tough for US cos to hire H-1B visa holders – world news

The Trump administration plans to make it harder for US companies to hire foreign workers on H-1B non-immigrant short-term visas, by narrowing the definition of “speciality” occupation and raising minimum wages for the employees.

Both measures are intended to ensure American workers were not displaced or denied jobs because of cheaper foreign workers. Critics of the H-1B programme argue that US companies are hiring foreign workers to displace American ones, and that they are not highly skilled as they ought to be. More than 70% of these H-1B visas go to Indians hired by US companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Apple, and US subsidiaries of Indian IT companies such as Infosys, Wipro and TCS.

Office of Management and Budget of the White House has posted a notice on its website saying a review was under way of H-1B and other visas, but no details were available.

Hiding in plain sight in an online world | Business

While the pandemic seems to be the backdrop for everything happening currently, the foreground is dominated by being online and nearly constant telepresence either for school, work or for home. It is leading to feelings of overexposure and inability to find some privacy.

Last week, I had a recurring thought about a bookstore in the U.K., browsing the philosophy section, where I would find Routledge black-bound volumes.

I discussed the thought with my wife. Why was it recurring? Was it because this was not accessible to me during the pandemic? Was it just nostalgia? Was it just that I miss bookstores?

We put the last one to a test and called our sitter, who came for a couple of hours to watch the boys, and we headed into town to Garcia Street Books. After using the hand sanitizer at the door, we went in and did what we usually do

Starting To Buy Camping World (NYSE:CWH)

I highlighted my sale of Camping World Holdings (CWH) earlier this summer. I thought the share price at $30 was starting to get a little rich. I subsequently sold my shares at $34.

Covid-19 served as a tailwind and boosted camping and RV demand. 2020 has been a summer where most Americans have not taken any international vacations, attended concerts or sports events. It has been the summer of camping.

This week, CWH held their annual investor day. After reviewing the material, I am now more bullish on the company. I think a valuation of $30 is conservative and the company is most likely worth closer to $50 per share. Subsequently, I will be accumulating shares in the $25-30 range.

Valuation is Solid

The company is currently valued at $2.7 Billion. The enterprise value is $5.0 Billion.

The company is now projecting $500 million in Adjusted EBITDA in 2021. Furthermore,
