The Finance 202: Big business eyes more wins with padded conservative majority on Supreme Court

Yet the court is also primed to rule on a slate of issues pitting big-business interests against consumers and workers – with sweeping consequences for the balance of power between them.

This court already treats business interests more favorably than any in nearly a century, some scholars argue. In its 2017 term, the court returned pro-business decisions in more than 80 percent of the cases in which they were at stake, according to an analysis by Adam Feldman, author of the Empirical SCOTUS blog.

A Paris appeals court on Tuesday dismissed Samwell International Holdings Ltd.’s suit seeking 1.5 million euros ($1.8 million) in unpaid fees. The ruling backed a non-public decision last year by an arbitration court that had said there were “serious, precise and consistent presumptions” suggesting Airbus’s contracts with Samwell, which helped with helicopter sales, were “tainted with corruption” and should be invalidated.

The ruling opens a window into the behind-closed-doors arbitration disputes between Airbus and its intermediaries as it cut payments while facing global bribery investigations. Airbus agreed to a 3.6 billion-euro settlement in January to resolve allegations by French, American and British prosecutors that the company used middle men

Morgan Stanley Bets on These 3 Stocks; Sees Over 40% Upside

Did the stock market’s epic rally just need a little breather? The last few weeks have seen stocks experience their first meaningful correction since the bull market kicked off in March. Now, the question swirling around the Street is, will the rally pick back up again, or is more downside on the way?According to Morgan Stanley’s chief U.S. equity strategist Mike Wilson, uncertainty regarding the presidential election and stalemate on the next stimulus package could lead to declines in September and October. “On the correction, there’s still downside as markets digest the risk of congressional gridlock on the next fiscal deal.
