Ah, travel. Remember travel?

Travel was when we used to go “other places,” in a time when the U.S. wasn’t literally banned from the rest of the world. And often, when preparing to travel, we used to post pictures to social media of our boarding pass to show off to our friends and — more importantly — anonymous internet strangers.

Turns out this is and has always been a terrible idea because the internet is dark and full of hackers. Or in this case, a person in Australia who knows how to access the “inspect element” option on a website’s drop-down menu and used it to hack personal details from the country’s former Prime Minister.

Facebook’s AR Ray-Bans Are a Terrible Idea

We learned two things about Facebook today. First, it’s working on Project Aria, an experimental platform that will eventually lead to a pair of AR glasses that will stream data to your face. Next, we learned that it’s in partnership with sunglasses manufacturer Ray-Ban to make, we assume, a fancy pair of the company’s signature glasses for consumer use.

Here’s the thing: While it’s clear that AR glasses will eventually reach a mass audience, perhaps even in the next decade, we definitely don’t need a pair of fancy “ARay-Bans” anytime soon. The world doesn’t yet know why it needs AR glasses. That’s why these partnerships are way too early.

AR glasses don’t have a killer use case. As the Snap Spectacles and Amazon’s Echo Frames have proven, the desire to take photos with your face or chat with a voice assistant through your specs isn’t high

A.O. Smith Demonstrates That A Great Business Can Be A Terrible Investment (NYSE:AOS)

In the 60 or so days since I wrote my cautious piece about A.O. Smith (AOS), the shares are up about 2% against a gain of just over 8% for the S&P 500. This relative underperformance, coupled with the fact that the company has since released financial results, opens the possibility that the shares now represent good value. I’ll try to answer whether the shares are worth buying at the moment by looking at the financial history here, and by looking at the stock as a thing distinct from the actual business.
