Steelers ‘Disappointed’ in Reschedule, Will Treat Week as Bye

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers learned just hours before their Thursday practice that their Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans will be rescheduled to later in the season.

The NFL decided to postpone the game past their initial hopes of Monday or Tuesday after one more Titans player and one personnel tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday morning. The league released a statement saying they will set a new date for the matchup “shortly.”

“I’m disappointed because we were preparing to play, and we’re not getting an opportunity to,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “But we understand the nature of the environment we’re in in 2020 so we’re adjusting accordingly. There’s disappointment. No question. We’ve worked in the beginning portion of this week in preparation for what we thought was an opportunity against an undefeated team in their home venue. You lean in on those opportunities.”

It’s business as usual for the Pittsburgh Steelers in what may be one of the more unusual weeks of the 2020 season. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the Tennessee Titans — Pittsburgh’s Week 4 opponent — had three players and five personnel members test positive for COVID-19. That has forced the club to shut down the facility reportedly until Saturday, which doesn’t give that much turnaround time prior to their Week 4 game with the Steelers on Sunday in Nashville.

While the news of this outbreak within the Titans organization has sparked discussions about potentially moving this contest, coach Mike Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday evening that the Steelers have “been given a mandate [by the NFL] to prepare to play as if the game is on time, and we’re going to prepare with that mentality.”

Tomlin added that the Steelers have not been directly involved

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans aren’t disrupting their preparations for Sunday’s Week 4 games against the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings, respectively, after three Titans players and five members of the staff tested positive for COVID-19.

“We have been in contact with the NFL regarding the positive COVID-19 tests with the Tennessee Titans,” the Steelers said in statement Tuesday, via Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. “We have been informed to proceed with our game preparations for Sunday’s game until we are informed otherwise.”

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported the Texans are also “maintaining normal operations” in the wake of Tennessee’s positive tests.

The Titans closed their team facilities because of the positive tests. According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, their doors will remain closed until Saturday, which presents obvious issues during a game week. Russini added that the NFL hasn’t made a decision about

NFL picks, predictions for Week 3: Packers handle Saints; Bengals bury Eagles; Steelers top Texans

NFL game picks and predictions for Week 3 of the 2020 season are tricky now that desperation is setting in for the remaining winless teams.

Of the 11 teams that enter Week 3 with 0-2 records, all but two are underdogs this week based on the point spreads. They’ll be fighting against those odds knowing an 0-3 start to the season is all but a fork in what a few weeks ago was the promise of a fresh start.

The pair of winless teams entering Week 3 as favorites to win are the Eagles and Falcons against the Bengals and Bears, respectively. Both have the advantage of playing at home. The odds also suggest the Dolphins and Vikings have strong chances to pick up their first wins of the season based on the tight lines for their games against the Jaguars and Titans, respectively.

With that as the background, below
