Daytona Beach’s Tom Cook Jeweler marks 129 years in business


The downtown Daytona Beach business celebrates 129 years

DAYTONA BEACH — Even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, the glimmer of diamonds and gold still attracts customers to Tom Cook Jeweler, a family-owned fixture for nearly 130 years.

“People are still getting engaged, celebrating anniversaries and birthdays,” said Vicki Cook Leonardt, co-owner of the venerable jewelry shop at 150 S. Beach Street with her sister Sheryl Cook.

The duo represents the fourth generation of family leadership of a company originally founded in 1892 in Columbus, Ga.  The sisters team with Vicki’s daughter, Ashley Leonhardt Lee, a fifth generation connection who joined the company as vice president of sales and marketing in 2005.

This Labor Day Weekend, Myrtle Beach’s Indoor Live Entertainment Venues Will Reopen For Business

Labor Day Weekend 2020 in Myrtle Beach is taking a small step toward tourism – in that its live indoor entertainment attractions will again operate under certain COVID-19 related mandates.

On August 3, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster permitted the reopening of several entertainment businesses under required implement measures listed in accelerateSC, a multi-point, coronavirus pandemic response plan. Created to counteract the impact of COVID-19 within South Carolina, accelerateSC centers on revitalizing the state’s economy while providing residents with access to COVID-19 related information.

With these specific businesses in Myrtle Beach, Karen Riordan, president and CEO at Visit Myrtle Beach, noted that this measure can help recoup some lost business since their spring 2020 closures.
