San Felasco Tech City, Alachua County’s own bit of Silicon Valley, has signed a long-term lease with a new company that will now call North Central Florida home.
And one household name, Amazon, has a new foothold in Gainesville with a delivery station.
This news, along with growth from a Gainesville-based company and two top workplace recognitions, round out this week’s list of local business news.
Medical device company headquarters at San Felasco Tech City
NovApproach Spine, a developer of spinal surgical technology, has chosen San Felasco Tech City in Alachua for its corporate headquarters.
The medical device company’s leadership will run the company from a 2,500-square-foot space leased at the tech incubator located at 13900 Tech City Circle.
Mitch Glaeser, CEO of the Emory Group Companies, said that as a growing company, NovApproach Spine will have the chance to build out into more space if needed.
Tech City is an 82-acre mixed-use development with more than 270,000 square feet of tech space, a preschool and neighborhood of sustainable homes under construction.
Gainesville Amazon delivery facility opens
A new Amazon delivery station has opened at 2121 NW 67th Place to speed up package delivery and increase efficiency for Alachua County customers.
The station will enable the company to better control the last step of the delivery process, when a package reaches its customer, often referred to as “last mile delivery.” Packages will spend less time “out for delivery” and arrive at their destination more quickly with an efficient process.
The station employs more than 50 people full time at $15 per hour starting wages.
As a part of its opening celebration, Amazon donated of more than 6,000 meals to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank. Associates from the new delivery station volunteered their time sorting and packing more than 600 pounds of food to be donated to Gainesville community members in need.
Total Wine & More donates to food bank
Gainesville’s Total Wine & More, located at 3965 Plaza Blvd #10 in Butler North, has donated $10,000 to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank to help feed Alachua County’s poor residents.
A donation of $1 can provide up to 10 meals.
Since March, the food bank has distributed 14.5 million pounds of food, which is double its normal distribution rate.
Orthopedic Care Partners adds affiliation
Gainesville-based Orthopedic Care Partners has completed its seventh practice affiliation with the addition of Colorado’s OrthoAspen.
OrthoAspen will integrate into The Steadman Clinic, a world-renowned orthopaedic clinic also located in Colorado.

Darr Schackow makes top insurance workplaces list
Darr Schackow Insurance, whose main office is in Gainesville, was recently recognized as a top insurance workplace in the nation.
The annual Top Insurance Workplaces list is featured in the August issue of Insurance Business America magazine. The magazine reached out to thousands of insurance professionals across the country to find out how their employers are performing with regard to compensation and benefits, diversity, employee development and culture.
Darr Schackow was ranked and scored in the category that includes 99 or fewer employees.
James Moore recognized as top public accounting firm
James Moore, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants has once again been recognized as one of the nation’s top 200 public accounting firms. This is the 11th straight year that James Moore has made the annual list from INSIDE Public Accounting.
Over 500 accounting firms nationwide participated in the 2020 survey, with the top 200 firms selected and ranked based on U.S. net revenue performance.
James Moore is one of just five Florida‐based firms that made the top 200 list.
